Formerly the agricultural hub of the Southern Highlands, Moss Vale has recently evolved into a charming cultural hub of the Southern Highlights. The main street is dotted with cafes, bars, and an eclectic mix of specialty shops and antique stores, it’s a great place to get a taste of our relaxed country way of life.
Right in the centre of town you’ll find Leighton Gardens. Don’t miss the lovely tulip display in September. Take the self guided walking tour of the town to discover our colonial and early 20th century heritage.
A visit to Cecil Hoskins Nature Reserve is a must. If you’re feeling energetic, the Best of Bowral and The Bong Bong Track is a 26 kilometre on/off road cycling and walking track that starts at Moss Vale along the beautiful Wingecarribee River and makes its way to Bowral. View map »
Surrounded by rolling hills dotted with farms, vineyards and lovingly maintained gardens, a leisurely drive beyond the town is highly recommended.
Sutton Forest is a small village only 6 minutes drive from Moss Vale Village Park and is like stepping back in time 170 years to an English country town.
As one of the first colonial settlements outside of Sydney, it still features stately manor houses and estates.
Red Cow Farm features one of the Southern Highlands’ best cool-climate gardens. Set over 2.5 hectares, visitors can wander through 20 garden rooms including a cottage garden, monastery garden, old fashioned roses, orchids and much more.
Bowral is the largest town in the Southern Highlands area. This lovely historic village, lined with leafy trees, is brimming with an exciting mix of eateries, wineries, galleries, specialty boutiques and homewares shops. Antique shops selling an eclectic range of furniture, bric-a-brac and interesting curios attract visitors from far and wide.
The Bradman Museum is brimming with cricket memorabilia including Don Bradmans childhood bat. The International Cricket Hall of Fame, comprising 6 galleries, is a must-see for any cricket fan. At 52 Shepherd Street you can visit Sir Donald Bradman’s childhood home.
Corbett Gardens is the centrepiece of the annual Tulip Time Festival held every September where you’ll see over 10,000 blooms.
Take a drive up to Borwal Lookout for spectacular views over the town and beyond.
The region’s rich soil and high altitude make Mittagong one of Australia’s most prolific wine-growing countries. Mittagong is home to over 60 vineyards so you don’t have to travel too far to find a cellar door.
Take a self guided walking tour of Mittagong town which features some of regional NSW’s best-preserved colonial buildings. Stop along the way and uncover hidden treasures in one of the antique stores. Drop into one of the art galleries and admire the works of our local artists. Be sure to take some time out and enjoy a meal at one of the many eateries.
A scenic 20 minute drive from Moss Vale Village Park is Fitzroy Falls. Located in Morton National Park, at an awe inspirating 80 metres high, the falls are some of the most spectacular in Australia. You can explore this untouched wilderness via a range of short and long walking trails where you’ll be rewarded with superb views, gorges and waterfalls.

Berry Farms – the Southern Highlands is dotted with berry farms of all kinds. Many are open to the public where you can ‘pick-your-own’.
Brigadoon in Bundanoon – Dubbed “Australia’s Premier Scottish Gathering”, this annual event features bag pie bands, drum displays, highland dancing, and much more.
Historic Berrima – As one of Australia’s best-preserved Georgian villages, Berrima’s colonial sandstone buildings and country charm make this historic town well worth a visit.
